230SL Interior
« on: February 19, 2009, 03:36:18 PM »
HI guys, just found this board.  I have a 1965 230SL and I'd like to do a complete interior renew.  Nothing is really bad, but the top part of the dash vinyl is starting to tear and the door panels have gotten discolored.  I suppose I could spray them?  The seats could use redoing since they were last done in 1982, but they aren't really ugly yet.  Is it possible to purchase a complete interior kit or should I try to buy the parts piece meal.  I'm afraid if I buy from more than one supplier colors might not match.  Also, how hard is it to install new vinyl on the dash tops or other surfaces?  I see the door panels are very simple, but I'm not so sure about the boot cover and perhaps the windshield side posts.

Thanks for your help
Gerry

Hello Gerry:

You will save money if you are able to purchase all the interior upholstery at once. Spraying the panels does not always work, but may be worth a try. We can manufacture the upholstery for the seats, door panels, and boot cover. We can also provide vinyl or leather for anything else you need to cover. Most suppliers that handle German vinyl or leather should provide the same color. However, I share your concern. I would recommend purchasing everything from one source even if it is a little at a time. Most of the interior upholstery is not very difficult to install. It just requires time and patience. Unfortunately, I cannot offer any assistance on covering the dash.

You might try the Classis Center in Irvine, CA for a new dash. If it's available at all, that is where you're likely to find it.
