Rich startup mixture
« on: July 10, 2009, 04:27:04 PM »
1978 450SL
My 450 starts too rich every time - warm or cold.  When cold, I need about 1/3 to 1/2 throttle to get enough air in it to fire, then have to hold at least 2000 rpm to keep it running until it warms up enough to idle - usually 2-3 minutes.
Warm starting is similar, except after starting, it will run normally.  (Once in a great while, it will fire and run before the throttle is cracked and then run normally.)
Suspect the warm up regulator, but could something else be the culprit?
Thanks.

Yes it sounds like WUR, you need to put  pressure gauges on it and record the pressure when cold, temperature (air temp) and pressure when warm.

Fuel accumulator is highly suspect.
