72 280se sedan w108 rear seat leather cover replacement
(1/1)
1977mgeeb:
This is my first post here and I look forward to tackling the upholstery in my w108 sedan. I've done a few interiors before (mostly Brit cars) so I'm not anticipating any problems.
Can anyone offer some pointers? I'm deciding weather to buy horsehair pads vs "rubberized" pads. Any thoughts either way?
Also. My car is titled a 72, but I'm almost sure it has Orange bamboo #3004 interior. Which is a 1973 - on color. Anyone else encountered this?
Should I purchase new hardware or use the 40 year old existing hardware for this job? I just know my wife is going to take note of the $1000 plus cost of this job and beat me up for a new couch...I can feel it!
Any tricks to assist me would be most welcome.
Thanks in advance-
JBM
MTRUEBA:
Your first choice when available should always be horsehair pads since they are more durable than foam pads. Replacement seat hardware may be difficult to find. Try to repair/reuse the existing hardware if possible. Other alternatives would include seeking parted out cars or a local machine shop which is willing to offer help at a reasonable price.
Digmenow:
If you contact the Mercedes Classic Center in California and supply your VIN to them, they can decipher it and tell you how your car was originally equipped, including interior color.
