Hi, I am new and I used to drive a nice 560SEL but my wife took it away until I fix the 190E POS that keeps on stalling.  Did I mention that I am a horny bastard?

Welcome to the German Star Forum! Thank you for choosing to participate. Please feel free to post a new thread to tell us a little about yourself and your car.  :)

Hello all I have been working on a 1983 240 D for about 5 years.  I have rebuilt the motor myself.
I have only had the car running for 2 weeks.  Have to get throttle linkage adjusted.  I hope that will fix my problem.

Will restore car entirely.  Body is a 9 out of 10.  Need dashboard and interior trim and electrical switches ........

So hello all

HEY, I AM A NEW GUY ON THE BLOCK.  MY FIRST MERCEDES.  BOUGHT A '97 SL500 A COUPLE MONTHS AGO.  KNEW ABOUT HYDRAULIC LIFTER PROBLEMS ALREADY AFFECTING THE CAR SO FEEL LIKE I GOT A GOOD BUY ESPECIALLY AFTER FINDING THE REBUILTS AVAILABLE.  GOT THE CAR 6,000 BELOW BOOK BECAUSE NEW HYDRAULICS WERE GOING TO BE EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE.  HOW DOES THE ORDERING WORK?  WOULD YOU ADVISE REMOVING ALL THE OLD ONES BEFORE ORDERING?  HOW DOES THE CORE EXCHANGE WORK?  HOW MANY CYLINDERS ARE ONBOARD?  IT IS GREAT TO HAVE YOU AVAILABLE.  GREAT INFO. THANKS.

There are a total of 12 cylinders, core and ordering info are found here: http://www.germanstar.net/Mercedes_Hydraulic_Cylinders.htm

Probably best to order first, then swap them out, then return your old cores -- in that order.

Hello German star, I have bought Mercedes parts from you for several years and it has been good. I have never used a discussion board previously, so this is a learning experience for me.

New to the world of the German Star. Recently acquired a 1978 MB 450 SL hardtop/convertible. Had been sitting for about three years, so, so far, have had a mechanic go over the car and do basic repairs. Electrical requests have proved to be beyond his knowledge, although I was assured the shop routinely worked on classic MB's. Live and learn. Burned out a new antenna motor assembly within 24 hours of picking up the car. Have purchased a Hirschmann universal, but will wait until I find new shop. Same with interior lighting. Had told them to fix whatever needed fixing, but drove away with no functioning rear window defogger, no ashtray light, no climate cluster light, etc., and a driver's side window that stopped working by the third day. Rather disappointed, but had my last classic over 20 years ago, so forgot the joys of owning an "old" automobile. That was a '74 MG Midget. My age, my size and my wallet have all increased over that 20 years, my wallet the least, but hope to enjoy riding with the top down once winter passes, in Wisconsin, and an unheated garage once again becomes a warm place to work. I haven't tinkered since computers invaded our vehicles, and I never did learn how to gap a spark plug, but time will tell if I've bought an albatross or a good luck charm. I have no idea where Port Washington is, but I know of a fine shop in Brooklyn, if that isn't too far...

Thank you for the welcome.  I just bought only my second Mercedes, an '83 380SL, 85k miles, excellent condition.  I have just ordered a hood insulation blanket as the original one is disintegrating in the dry weather here in Scottsdale.  It is not obvious from looking how the blanket is attached to the hood.   I'm not much of a mechanic, so I'll be asking rather than answering questions, and simple ones at that.  A nice forum!

The hood pad is held on with glue, specifically 3M Spray Adhesive. Be sure to get the heat-resistant variety. You'll find it at Home Depot or any good hardware store.

Welcome to the German Star Forum! Thank you for choosing to participate. Please feel free to post a new thread to tell us a little about yourself and your car.  :)
hello ! every one out there, i am pleased to join the Germen Star forum, i am a Mercedes enthusiast from sri lanka. i own a 1989/90 model W124. this car has a 2 litre engine and has been marketed here as a 200E. this car was bought by me a few months ago and i am very keen to restore it to its original condition as it has been left neglected for a prolong period of time. The mileage reading is 118,000km (verified by agent), but though such is the case the previous owner seems to have messed up its engine & i just rebuilt it a few weeks ago. i am very keen to have it up & running very soon & look forward to achieve this with your valuable support if possible.
It also need some attention in the interior as well , but, shall start on that once the motor work is completed.

this car has got many options as such, it would be great if i could see this car fully restored to its full potential.

 :) bye for now
