I read on the net somewhere that if the 6 cyl engine had a cannister of some type in the exhaust, in the engine compartment, level with the head of the engine, that it should be replaced by a dealer. I think that my '87 car has never had that done. Can I expect a dealer to do now at  this late date?  Am I clear enough that someone can answer my question?
thanks. hstrahm

It's a trap oxidizer. I wouldn't replace it on a lark, it's pretty darned expensive.
