Pricey Pizza

Pricey Pizza - CBS 21

If picking up a pizza pie for dinner is something your family does often, prepare to possibly pay a little more than usual.

First it was milk, than eggs, now the cost of another kitchen staple is rising. The cost of flour is skyrocketing and local pizza shops say they're feeling the pinch.

Brothers Pizzeria in Susquehanna Township, Dauphin County, says they paid nearly $30 per 50-pound bag of flour this week. That's double the price they paid last week.

That price is expected to rise to at least $40 per bag next week.

The price of wheat has surged over the past month, partly, because more and more farmers are planting more corn and soybeans to sell for alternative fuel, leaving wheat in high demand.

For now, Brothers Pizzeria is not raising prices. Cooks are just trying to not let supplies go to waste.

Bigger problems could be on the way. Some experts predict a flour shortage in the near future. Restaurants across the country are stockpiling bags, making supply even tighter.

I considered that.  I didn't think it would be all that well received.

You are awaiting the statistical analysis of flour prices, aren't you?

I may have found an important clue. Check this out: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&safe=off&rlz=1B3GGGL_enUS257US257&q=personal+pan+now&btnG=Search

So there it is at number six, but the interesting thing is where is says "Page 2". Don't click the link, click where it says "Cached" instead to see what's triggering the high rank.

I'm not sure, there is so little there that ties to the keyword search.  :-\

Every week, we should just keep adding one more post from the thread until it hits. There must be an answer.

I was talking to the owner of Joe Bolognas last week on this. His wholesaler had a shipment at $26 and told Joe it was going quickly toward $50. I now have 20,000 pounds of flour [yes, that is 400 big assed bags] where I normally store the leather part of my business since that area is weather proof.

According to the restaurant market newsletter he gets, weather and exports are the issue.

Also, cheese has more than doubled in the past six months. He quit deliveries two years ago since gas prices had double as did other expenses on delivery vehicles [tires, oil changes, etc]
