SRS part
« on: February 23, 2009, 06:04:31 AM »
Where, other than the dealer, is it possible to buy a passenger seat SRS pad/module for a '99 E320?

Yep.  That's the part everyone shows in the DIY pictorials.

Dealer-only. No salvage yard would separate one from a seat, unless the seat was completely trashed. You could always try Potomac, but it would be a near-miracle. Also, there are several versions available, even for W210.

I wonder if an OBDII unit could pull a code for that sort of thing or d'ya suppose that it's in a different diagnostic chain elsewhere?

I'm thinking probably not. Pray tell, why is this part failure a problem?

Since that original post, I have conferred with Claude who has assured me that he can read the code(s) involved to validate the theory that the passenger seat module is bad, causing the SRS light to stay lit all the time and thereby disabling the entire SRS system.

He says he won't do the repair for liability reasons.  Dunno.

There's always the black electrical tape over the dash light fix.

Got the car back from Claude yesterday who confirms the cause of the SRS light is the child sensor pad.  I will contact the local dealer for the part (using VIN) but I do wish there was a bypass as there will likely never be a child in this seat for the rest of the car's natural life.
