Flooding in 1963 220SE
(1/1)
olbenzy:
I have a 1963 220SE that died on the interstate. Just before it died I heard a popping noise like a slight backfire. It cut off and after sitting a short time I cranked the car and proceeded heading home. After about 2-3 miles it just died again and would not start. I have an electronic ignition installed on the vehicle and I checked it completely with all the tests given in the manual and it appears to be working, the only thing I have not done is take out a plug and verify it is firing. I then checked the fuel delivery from the pump to the distributor, there was fuel being pumped. I could smell gas and knew it had been burning rich while it was running. When I checked the air filter, fuel was running out of the intake manifold, and did so for a while. Letting the car sit over night it still would not start. The oil level in the fuel distributor may be over full.
I guess what I need to know is 1) Is there an adjustment on the fuel distributor,
2) Is taking the distributor off and having it rebuilt something I could do,
3) where is the best place to send it to have it rebuilt and
4) is there any manual for this job?
