Adjusting reverse lights for A series

Hi,I'm new and I have a problem,can anybody tell me how to get the reverse lights to go off,they are on when I switch on the ignition.I recently replaced the gearbox,and now I need to pass the Irish car test.Thanks Paddy. :-[
